The Fruits of Our Labor

No one ever told us that when you buy the house, you buy the yard too! We knew our yard was bad, but even if we didn't, we got enough HOA notices in the mail to clue us in. Since we moved in mid-winter, we kept saying we'd wait until Spring to fix it. Well Spring snuck up on us awfully fast and before we knew it, all the neighbors had re-mulched their yards, planted new colorful flowers, and we remained the black sheep of the neighborhood.

I think the task just seemed insurmountable at first. We had a dead pine tree, dead bushes, and not much else. But with the help of Randall, Janice, and a chainsaw, I'm proud to post our before and after photos.

First, we chopped down the pine tree and cedar tree. (No easy task!) Then we removed EVERYTHING from the front beds. We had this bright idea to just move the two pygmy and sago palms from the back to the front. Little did we realize, pygmies are obscenely heavy and have a million spiky palms. Poor BJ slaved for three days before he was able to up-root them. But in the end it saved us lots of money and we are pretty happy with the result.

Now let's just hope those palms don't die in two weeks!!
