So, late Thursday afternoon, BJ and I decided to head to Dallas and avoid all the hurricane mess. We really used it more as an excuse to get out of town than as an evacuation route. Little did we know, our weekend trip would turn into a week long vacation!
The trip was great - BJ and my dad went golfing (twice) as mom and I shopped. They wined us and dined us all week and we joked that we were by far the best fed evacuees! We really enjoyed getting to spend a whole week in Dallas visiting friends and spending baby-free time with my parents.
But I have to admit that we felt awfully guilty as we talked to BJ's family and they were going on their 5th, 6th...(and counting) day of "camping out" with no electricity or water as they worked to clear the tree debris. If we had known the power would be out so long, we would have loaded them in the car with us and brought them to Dallas. But everyone is fine and surprisingly minimal damage was done to any of their houses. (Randall's bay house may beg to differ, but it did manage to avoid flooding in the second story!)
We had planned on leaving Dallas Sunday, but as Wednesday drew near, there was still no power at our condo in Houston. Despite the lack of electricity, I had a doctor's appointment and BJ had to return to work, so we packed up the car with water and gas and headed back to H Town. Luckily, BJ's Oma has power at her house and is letting us stay with her. It's been a crazy week, but everyone is fine...maybe just a little stinky and hot.
Pictures soon to come...
