The Burkhardt Wedding

This weekend marked the last wedding of the summer for the Symons family.  And we definitely went out with a bang!  (I still have one more to go, but my brother's wedding isn't until the end of December)

We decided to head into Dallas a few days early at Erik's request.  (Not sure if it was wedding nerves or Kari's honey-do list that prompted the invitation!)  BJ and Erik spent Thursday shopping for the honeymoon, picking up their tuxes, and running wedding errands, while I relaxed with my parents in Midlothian.

Wedding festivities began Friday night with the rehearsal and then dinner at the Iron Cactus downtown. We were thoroughly entertained with a slideshow with many embarrassing pictures of Kari and Erik. (and a few of me and BJ)  The best man and maid of honor gave their traditional congratulatory toasts and then the floor was opened up for anyone to speak.  Boy was that a mistake!  Although most of the stories were told at Erik's expense, it was quite comical to hear what family, friends and co-workers had to say about the exuberant couple.  Even BJ got up to say a few words :)
Saturday was everything a bride could imagine.  The ceremony was short and sweet and the rain held off for wedding photos.  The evening reception took place at a highrise overlooking downtown and had spectacular city views.  Kari's grandma is a florist, so you can only imagine how amazing all the flowers and centerpieces were.  Her colors were black and green with hints of bright pink.

There was only one glitch in the whole evening-  Although it probably wasn't too funny to Kari and Erik at the time, I'm sure they'll laugh about it in 10 years.  The cake person had accidentally put the A&M logo instead of the Texas Tech logo on top of the groom's cake!!!  At first everyone though it was a joke, but we soon realized it was just a mistake.  Either way, Erik was quick to smear the icing and we all got a good laugh.  Some Aggie baker is laughing somewhere!

Other than that, the entire evening was a total blast and BJ and I felt so lucky to be a part of their big day.  Kari & Erik - we love you so much and we look forward to many years of traveling together with our growing families!! Congrats!
